Book Review : Confessions of an EHM

Well this is my first blog. I am not a vivd blogger but somehow i was possessed by this urge today to vent out some of the burden off my conscience.

Lately I have been reading a lot, well this used to be the case a few years ago and for some reason I gave up on that. The probable reason for this revival : 1) I felt like I need to connect myself with the world around 2) I had enough with the dating adventures and thought a good book might be better alternative to a bipolar woman ( just kidding !!!! )

Well coming to the book I was particularly impressed with the following :

1. Author ( John Perkins) gave an incredible insight into the world that American Corporatocracy has created within the last half century and how it still pushes its citizens to the edge with a new war once every 4 years.

2. I was particualrly impressed with the lucidity by which the author divuleges the faceless monster behind the American Capitalism ( not sure whether its still appropriate to label this process like that).

3. The most striking of all is the grand scheme by which the American Corporations forefronted the Evangelical groups to do the dirty jobs for them. This one particular group SIL ( Summer Institute of Linguistics) who proclaim themselves as missionaries used the word of God to relocate the tibals from Amazon forests out of the oil rich lands into reservations setup by the oil companies ( Standard Oil ). My tough then raced back to what I came across in India a year ago. The Christian Missionaries in India ....boy what schemes, scams & scandas did they pull up to get to where they are right now. Well I will talk about this issue probably in one of my ensuing blogs, so lets focus on the book again.

4. The corporations got us into such a mess by now that we posted a staggering 7 trillion dollars in deficit i.e., $24,000 for every US citizen, which means by the time my kids start working the would end up not only paying for the pricipal but also for the compounded interest ( lets say 5% anually for the next 24 years) need less to say the numbers speak for themselves. In a nutshell what good did this corporations run government do:

a) They rendered all the future generations ( middle class + poor) into slave labor

b) Polluted the waters, tored down beautiful forests in months which survived millions of natural catastrophes, torched the sky with their space programmes ( visit Univ of Alaska program on High Altitue Auroral Research ( HAARP) )

c) Cloned the American materialisic society prototypes in all the 3rd world countries ( S.E Asia ).

What I learned after reading Mr.John Perkins book :

1. If you dont open eyes and do something about the world around you, all your future generations are deep trouble. As Martin Luther King once said " You are as guilty as the person who perpetuates a crime if you stand there watching things and pretend as though nothing happened"

2. Every person has to think and come up with ways & initiative to develop ways to make his community more active in the world around him or her. Unless you raise your voice and speak out no one is going to listen to you.

3. Evey civilization has its own villans, the Romans ..the British (1600 - 1900), the facists ( WW I & II) and now the American Imperialism. So dont wait for the next guy to fight for your rights, realize that you are endowed with the strength to show a way out to all who suffer under such hardships.

Well enough for a days discourse...if you can pick up this book &you will find it a really interesting read.
